Are you looking to transfer your domain name from Namecheap to GoDaddy?
For my needs, I transferred one of my Namecheap domains to my GoDaddy account here and will give you a walkthrough of the transfer process.
However, the transfer process for most registrars is the same.
In this guide, you will find a step-by-step process to transfer your domain name from your current registrar to GoDaddy.
So let’s get started.
Here are the simple seven steps to transfer the domain name from Namecheap to GoDaddy:
1. Log in to your Namecheap Account
Log into your Namecheap account and click on the “Domain List” from the left menu.
2. Select your Domain Name and Click on Manage
From the domain list, select the domain name and click on “MANAGE” that you want to transfer from Namecheap to GoDaddy.
3. Go to Sharing & Transfer Settings
Once you click on manage you’ll land on the Domains → Details page. From there go to Sharing & Transfer settings page.
4. Unlock your Domain
Now it’s time to unlock your domain name.
Scroll down to head over to the Transfer Out option to “UNLOCK” your domain first.
5. Get an Authentication Code
Once you unlocked your domain name, click on the “AUTH CODE” to get your EPP code to proceed with the transfer out.
And select a reason and write a comment about your experience with them to let them know why you are transferring your domain out from Namecheap to another domain registrar and click Send Code button to get your domain transfer confirmation code to your inbox.
Then immediately you’ll receive the transfer authorization code that looks like below.
Now it’s time to initiate your domain transfer process.
6. Create or log in to your GoDaddy account
Log in to your GoDaddy account if you have one, otherwise, fill in your information to create an account first before transferring your domain name to there.
7. Transfer your Domain to GoDaddy
Once you have logged into your GoDaddy.com account, click on the “My Account” menu and click on Domains.
Then click on “Transfer” from the left menu of the domain portfolio page.
On the GoDaddy transfer page, you will have two options: Transfer to GoDaddy (which means transferring from another registrar) and Transfer Between Accounts (which means transferring domains from one GoDaddy account to another).
So you need to select the first one to transfer your domain name to GoDaddy from any other domain registrar.
To begin the transfer, type your domain name and copy and paste your auth or EPP code separated by a space or comma and click on the “Continue” button.
After clicking the Continue button, GoDaddy verifies the given data to check if the domain is eligible to transfer or not.
Then if the domain is validated, you have the option to checkout your domain transfer order now.
Review your item (items) and click on “Go to Checkout“.
After clicking the checkout button, you need to add the specified year, (1 year is recommended for your money) and click on the “I’m Ready to Pay” button to proceed with the payment gateway. However, you can then transfer your domain again from GoDaddy to Namecheap or other domain registrars in the following year to save money on domain renewals.
Now choose your preferred payment method and click on the “Review Order” button.
Once you click the Review Order button, GoDaddy verifies your payment method. You can see a notification if there are any issues with your information, and if the information is correct, you’ll get the option to Complete Purchase.
After clicking the complete purchase button you’ll see a welcome message “Well done! Time for the fun part.” with a confirmation ID and a copy of your receipt which will be sent to your registered e-mail.
Also, you can view your receipt from this page by clicking View Receipt which includes purchase details.
Now click “Continue” to go to your domain transfer page where GoDaddy asks to verify your domain auth code that you already received from your current registrar.
Simply select your domain and click on “Enter Auth Codes”.
And then you’ll have the option to put your auth-codes and verify.
Now click on the “Submit” button to finalize the domain transfer request.
Now your domain transfer is in progress and it takes up to 5-7 days to be completed automatically.
However, if you don’t want to wait and finish your transfer right away, check your e-mail about your domain transfer confirmation request and take action including:
- If you want to PROCEED with the transfer, you do not need to do anything.
- If you want to SPEED UP the transfer, please go to our website.
- If you want to CANCEL the transfer, please go to our website.
So, click on the second option and you’ll see the final confirmation letter where you can either approve or reject the domain transfer request for the specific domain names.
Click “Approve” to finalize the domain transfer request.
Conclusion
So the domain transfer from Namecheap to GoDaddy is successfully completed.
By following these simple steps you can easily transfer your own domain names from any domain registrar including Namecheap to GoDaddy.
